About me.

Tara Celentano, MA, LPCC

She/her/hers

Hello! In my therapy practice, I see couples, partnerships and families, as well as individuals. In my professional role, I believe it’s an honor and a privilege to be invited into the such vulnerable and private aspects of clients’ lives. It’s a role that - though at times filled with levity - I see as a great responsibility.

We may be a great fit if you:

  • Are experiencing conflict or disconnection in your romantic (and platonic!) relationship and want to learn healthy attachment and emotional relating. *

  • If past traumas are keeping you from experiencing a secure, loving relationship you and your partner/s want and are worthy of.

  • Are in a queer and/or interracial partnership, and are exploring identity-based relating

  • Are wanting to learn how to move toward and better support your loved ones, even amid busy schedules and hectic lives.

  • Are an adult family going through a life transition and wanting to leverage it to come closer in your relationships in the next stage.

  • Are experiencing family disputes and want to increase your sense of connection through those differences.

  • Are in the service profession, experiencing burnout and wanting to understand yourself more deeply, reduce stress, and heal.

  • Are experiencing anxiety and/or depression that seems to show up most intimately in your relationships, or understanding of the world.

Focus

I focus on supporting life transitions; building secure attachment and deepening relationships; reconciling difference; sexuality; grief and loss; depression; anxiety; developmental, relational, historical & cultural trauma healing; and existential or spiritual concerns.

If any of what I’ve written here resonates with you, please feel free to connect with me, and let’s see how we can work together to uncover & meet your goals for therapy.

Beyond training as a therapist, I have experience in community development through furthering food security initiatives, as an advocate for survivors of domestic violence, a garden teacher and trainer, and have lived in various indigenous communities learning their local cultivation practices and community organizing strategies. I am also a Certified Meditation Instructor.

During my free time you may find me enjoying delicious meals, submerged in hot water, dancing my way into my body, backpacking long distances or reading and dozing off in a hammock by the creek.

How I work

As a Contemplative Psychotherapist, I value the belief that all of us, no matter what our problems, are fundamentally good. I believe that, even while existing within oppressive societal forces, inside of us is an inherent sanity, full of freedom and the agency to respond. From a place of openness, I bring warmth and curiosity to all aspects of clients’ experiences - the disavowed, the previously unclaimed and unexplored - so they may come to see and understand the brilliant intricacies at play in themselves and the contexts in which they live. I seek to welcome all.

With permission, I invite clients into their somatic experiences in the present moment to access parts of themselves that may often go unrecognized in daily life, and to sync body & mind as the narratives they carry begin to reveal themselves and evolve. I use an emotionally focused approach to create understanding and a richness to an individual, partnership or family’s inner and collective experience built on a foundation of safety, trust, belonging, and communication. I incorporate a socially-just, trauma-informed, and relational lens.

While specialized skills are useful and necessary for clients’ presenting needs, I believe the most powerful and effective tool for healing is the therapeutic relationship. I am committed to continually becoming aware and working with the intersection of my particular identities, experiences, and patterns of relating to meet you in the most authentic and nonjudgmental way, and use the practices that best suit your course of healing. I invite and work with feedback.

Together, we’ll collaborate on finding ways to meet the increased peace, liberation, and well-being to courageously navigate the challenges and complexities of your unique path in this life.
